Job Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides physical, mental health, dental, and sex offender treatment services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system in New Jersey. UCHC employs approximately 1,000 staff and has a $150 million budget. This role is located at Southwoods State Prison in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

• Implements physician/associate practitioner orders within the scope of practice under the auspices of a Registered Nurse.
• Assists with feeding, bathing, and other inmate activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed within the Health Service Unit.
• Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures as needed, including preparing the inmate for the examination.
• Assists with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.

• Graduate of an approved Certified Nurse Aide program with current certification in New Jersey as a Nursing Assistant.
• CPR Certification.
• Valid Driver’s License approved by the Department of Corrections and adherence to all DOC requirements.
• Physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
