Salary Range $35,000 – $47,041

DEFINITION

DEFINITION: Under supervision, performs the field and office work related to the childhood lead environmental intervention program along with promoting other local community resource programs designed to meet the needs of residents; provides referrals to other agencies, does other related work.

DUTIES
  • Inspects building and dwelling for possible sources of lead poisoning.
  • Collects samples of paint from dwelling and delivers samples to laboratory.
  • Reinspects entire buildings when positive samples are discovered and collects samples from each dwelling unit for testing.
  • Confers with individual property owners relevant to service of notice and violations.
  • Reinspects dwellings after completion of repairs to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Provides referrals to other agencies for additional services.
  • Identifies and obtains services for residents having extraordinary needs beyond the scope of agency functions.
  • Supports division programs such as clinics and performing outreach.
  • Prepare reports of program activities.
  • Presents inspection findings in court cases.
  • Establishes and maintains essential records and files.
REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester‑hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

  • Four (4) years of professional experience in community relations work involving the promotion of local community resources or field work in social service or public assistance programs.
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
LICENSE

Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Applicant must possess Risk Assessor/Lead Inspector certification.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the various social, economic and other problems encountered by community residents.
  • Knowledge of problems involved in making investigations of suspected lead poisoning areas.
  • Knowledge of the techniques used to promote community resource programs.
  • Ability to comprehend established rules and regulations of a limited complexity.
  • Ability to identify and obtain needed services beyond the scope of agency functions.
  • Ability to explain the objectives and functions of the community service program.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain reports.
SCHEDULE

Thirty‑five (35) hour per week;
Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

NOTE

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness screening including drug testing.
