Staff Accountant Job Opportunity - Central New Jersey | Construction & Landscaping Industry

A well-established Construction and Landscaping firm based in Central New Jersey is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and enjoys collaborating across departments.

General Accounting
  • Partner with Project Managers regarding payroll and accounts payable matters
  • Review and verify vendor invoices and subcontractor applications for payment; ensure timely entry into SAGE
  • Assist with monthly AIA billing and supporting documentation
  • Manage weekly payroll processing, including coordination with third-party payroll providers
  • Oversee AP processes, including 3-way matching and weekly aging reports
  • Participate in AR meetings to support collections and cash flow projections
  • Record cash receipts and reconcile variances
  • Support monthly project reconciliations and assist with month-end close
  • Collaborate with leadership on project forecasting, WIP reporting, and financial statements
  • Coordinate with external accounting or consulting firms during audits
  • Serve as the day-to-day hub for finance and accounting operations
Reporting
  • Assist with daily cash balance reporting
  • Prepare weekly AP payable lists
  • Maintain monthly open AR reports
  • Support monthly close and financial statement preparation
  • Close out project accounts upon completion
  • Prepare weekly certified payroll reports and other client-required documentation
Office Support
  • Assist with ordering office supplies
  • Serve as point of contact for rented office equipment
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/accounting software (SAGE 300, Heavy Job, Miter preferred)
  • Familiarity with customer billing platforms (Textura, Procore, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Ability to manage deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach
