Position Description
- The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.
Description of Duties
The MS in Cybersecurity and Justice Program seeks a people-oriented, enthusiastic graduate student interested in working with the program chair. The candidate would be expected to be personable and capable of completing tasks in a timely manner. Responsibilities primarily involve working with faculty and providing administrative support on special projects. The GA will also assist with public relations, such as coordinating an advisory board meeting and creating a program newsletter to inform the advisory board and others in the school about program updates and achievements.
Other duties will be assigned as they arise.
A graduate assistant is required to have regular meetings with the chairs for delegating assignments and process checks. The primary duties are to research the requested documents or information and generate reports and updates.
Outcomes
The GA will gain essential skills in project management, technical proficiency, and professional conduct. Through involvement in academic and administrative projects, the GA will learn to organize tasks, manage timelines, and coordinate effectively key competencies in both academic and professional settings. The GA will also build technical skills relevant to the field, such as working with specialized software or digital tools.
Just as importantly, he or she will develop a strong foundation in ethical and professional behavior, including confidentiality, accountability, and adherence to institutional standards. If the GA seeks a research component, the role can also provide opportunities to engage in data collection, analysis, and scholarly writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in administrative work is preferred but not required. Experience in professional writing is preferred. Good communication skills (both in-person and via email) are preferred.
