Department Information: The Theatre Department at Bridgewater State University is committed to the artistic empowerment and educational inviguration of our students. Position Information: The Theatre Performance Captioning Assistant is responsible for creating and preparing captioning files for the Department of Theatre’s five productions each academic year. Using provided play scripts, the student employee will convert dialogue and stage text into PowerPoint (or another approved playback format) for use during live performances.
The student employee will not be required to serve as a performance crew member but must attend technical rehearsals for each production to review caption accuracy, take notes, and make necessary updates and corrections until opening night.
All caption preparation and editing will be completed using Theatre Department computers and department-owned equipment in the Theatre computer lab.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented student with strong organizational, computer, and written communication skills, and an interest in theatre production and accessibility!
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
- Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct errors.
- Excellent written communication and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and/or other caption playback software.
- Ability to follow scripts accurately and maintain consistency throughout a production.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with faculty, staff, and student production teams.
- Interest in theatre production, live events, or accessibility services.
- Experience with theatrical productions, stage management, captioning, or video presentation software is preferred but not required.
