Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent of Schools serves as a key member of the district’s executive leadership team and supports the Superintendent in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs, operational initiatives, and district-wide systems. The Assistant Superintendent plays a critical role in supporting, coaching, and mentoring school and district leaders to ensure high-quality leadership, effective instruction, and continuous improvement across all schools.

The position advances student achievement, equity, and compliance with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements while fostering strong leadership capacity throughout the district.

District Leadership & Administration
  • Serve as a senior advisor to the Superintendent on instructional, operational, and policy matters
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of district strategic plans and school improvement initiatives
  • Support School Committee goals, policy implementation, and presentations as requested
  • Support implementation of collective bargaining agreements and labor relations in accordance with Massachusetts law
  • Act on behalf of the Superintendent when delegated to do so
Support, Supervision, & Mentorship
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and evaluation of school and district administrators
  • Serve as a mentor to school and district leaders, supporting leadership growth, instructional leadership, and problem-solving
  • Conduct regular school visits to support effective teaching, learning, and school climate
  • Support school and district leaders in the implementation of educator evaluation systems, school improvement planning, and data-informed decision-making
  • Foster a collaborative leadership culture aligned with district vision and goals
  • Collaborate with school and district leaders to address staffing needs, performance concerns, and professional growth plans
Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment
  • Oversee curriculum development, alignment, and implementation in accordance with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Support instructional leaders at the school and district level in order to strengthen teaching and learning practices
  • Lead analysis and use of student performance data (e.g., MCAS, formative assessments) to improve outcomes
  • Coordinate and support professional development aligned with district priorities and educator growth
Operations, Compliance, & Accountability
  • Ensure district compliance with DESE regulations, federal and state laws, and reporting requirements
  • Support development, monitoring, and implementation of district budgets and grants
  • Participate in audits, program reviews, accreditation processes, and accountability reporting
  • Maintain oversight of before and after school programming
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
  • Master’s degree required;
    Doctorate preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in educational leadership (e.g., Principal, district administrator)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Massachusetts education law, regulations, and accountability systems
  • Experience in supporting and supervising school and district administrators
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in district-level administration in Massachusetts public schools
  • Proven record of mentoring school and district leaders, and in developing leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated success improving student achievement and advancing equity
  • Experience with labor relations and collective bargaining
