Bridgewater State University’s Library Services is located in the Clement
C. Maxwell Library and operates an average of 87 hours each week during the academic year. The library serves all BSU students, faculty, staff, and researchers from across the country and world. It is a busy, dynamic place with classrooms, academic and administrative offices throughout the building.
Library Services is dedicated to meeting the needs of its communities, renewing the knowledge and skills of librarians and staff as practices change, and deploying new technologies and services to improve user experiences. Essential DutiesThe Maxwell Library seeks an innovative, service-oriented Systems and Technology Librarian to develop, manage, document, and troubleshoot the library’s web site and core library systems. The incumbent will administer, implement, and maintain all library systems, including Koha ILS, the library website (redesign underway), Springshare Lib Apps, and ILLiad interlibrary loan system, and any new applications adopted or developed.
- Administer and maintain the library’s core systems and ensure interoperability.
- Collaborate with librarians and staff to support and troubleshoot other library applications and investigate and implement new technologies.
- Work closely with the library staff and vendors on a full redesign of the Maxwell Library’s website.
- Provide technical expertise and support for traditional and emerging library hardware and software solutions and standards.
- Provide library systems support to library colleagues and respond to library systems–related needs across library units.
- Collaborate with the IT department to ensure compliance with institutional IT policies and security standards, while independently managing and resolving all library-specific IT issues.
- Serve as a point of contact for library systems and emerging technology vendors.
- Provide written reports, assessments, analyses, and documentation as needed.
- Advise, train, and teach staff, faculty, and students in emerging library technologies.
- Participate in orientation programs and information literacy efforts.
- Assist faculty research by providing guidance in discovering and using relevant library resources.
- Attend university functions such as annual faculty meetings, convocations, and commencement.
- Engage in professional activities, continuing scholarship, and serve on University-wide committees to satisfy promotion and tenure requirements.
- Participate in library consortia and cooperatives.
- Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Relevant experience in an academic, large public, or special library.
- Familiarity with library operations, procedures, and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience using a wide variety of integrated library system platforms and applications, and current library-related hardware and software.
- Understanding of library security and authentication systems and practices.
- Understanding of networking, including cloud-based server technology.
- Web application programming experience (HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Familiarity with database reporting standards.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team setting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of EZProxy or another access authentication software.
- Experience with Koha ILS and Springshare’s Lib Apps.
- Second master’s degree in a related discipline (required for promotion beyond Associate Librarian rank).
- Two years’ experience in an academic library setting.
