Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Funeral Service Faculty member at Cape Cod Community College is responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction in compliance with American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) accreditation standards.
This position is governed by the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) collective bargaining agreement and includes responsibilities in teaching, student advising, curriculum development, assessment, and college service. The faculty member supports student success and engagement while contributing to continuous program improvement and institutional effectiveness and adheres to all college policies and procedures. Position to be filled for start of Fall 2026 semester.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
* Develop, revise, and deliver course syllabi, instructional materials, and schedules in alignment with ABFSE curriculum competencies and learning outcomes.
* Plan, supervise, and evaluate student learning in laboratory, clinical, and extramural settings to ensure achievement of required ABFSE competencies.
* Collaborate with program faculty to develop, implement, and annually assess program goals, student learning outcomes, and program effectiveness in accordance with ABFSE and institutional assessment requirements.
* Maintain a minimum of four (4) posted office hours per week and provide timely academic support and feedback to students.
* Provide comprehensive academic advising to assigned students, supporting retention, progression, and completion.
* Attend and actively participate in division, departmental, and program meetings, as well as college committees and governance activities.
* Engage in college service, including committee work, accreditation support, and community engagement activities.
* Maintain professional growth and remain current in funeral service practice, regulatory requirements, and emerging industry trends.
* Participate in programmatic and institutional accreditation processes, including data collection, documentation, and self-study preparation in alignment with ABFSE standards.
* Engage in ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional levels, and use data to improve teaching effectiveness and student success.
* Ensure compliance with all ABFSE standards, including documentation, reporting, and continuous quality improvement processes.
* Integrate funeral service technologies, including case management systems and funeral home software, into instruction.
* Utilize effective teaching methodologies, including active and collaborative learning, inclusive pedagogy, and technology-enhanced instruction (e.g., LMS and Hyflex modalities).
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Graduation from an ABFSE-accredited funeral service or mortuary science program.
* Master's degree required, or a bachelor's degree with a commitment to obtain a master's degree within five (5) years.
* Current and active licensure in good standing as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in Massachusetts, or eligibility to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth by September 1, 2026.
* Successful completion of the National Board Examination.
* Three (3) years of part-time teaching experience in an ABFSE-accredited funeral service or mortuary science program.
* Five (5) years of professional experience in funeral service practice and/or embalming.
* Demonstrated understanding of the ABFSE accreditation processes and outcomes assessment.
* Proficiency in use of instructional technologies, including learning management systems and Hyflex or hybrid teaching environments.
* Demonstrated ability to apply effective teaching strategies, including active and collaborative learning.
* Experience in assessing student learning outcomes, analyzing data, and implementing improvements to enhance student success.
* Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* One (1) year of full-time teaching experience in an ABFSE-accredited funeral service or mortuary science program.
* Experience working in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive educational environments.
* Commitment to the mission and values of Cape Cod Community College and the Massachusetts community college system.

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION:
Full-time, tenure-track, MCCC Unit position with an anticipated Annual Salary Range of $75,965 - $84,951. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, determined by a formula-based classification system, consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
