Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Evolutionary Developmental Biology

The Department of Biological Sciences at Bridgewater State University seeks applications for the full time (tenure-track position) of Assistant Professor of Biology in the field of evolutionary developmental biology or a related subfield. The ideal candidate will be strongly committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, academic advising, and developing a program of independent research that includes mentoring undergraduate students.

Essential duties include participation in departmental meetings, committee work, departmental curriculum development, and advising students in course selection and major progress. The ideal candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities. Teaching requirements will include in-person instruction to Biology majors and non-majors, including General Biology II. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach upper-level biology elective courses in their area of expertise that complement existing strengths of the Department.

The candidate will also be expected to mentor undergraduates in research and contribute (via teaching or research mentoring) to our Master of Science program.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field by September 1, 2026. College-level teaching experience of undergraduate students. The ability to teach General Biology II and laboratory sections. The candidate must also demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and undergraduate research mentoring that enhances an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with the Appendix O of the MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $75,000 to $85,000.
