Graduate Assistant - CSE Engagement Advisor, Student Events
The Center for Student Engagement (CSE) seeks a full-time Graduate Assistant to support a caseload of aspiring and established student organizations, specifically advising and supporting the student programming board, Program Council (PC). This Graduate Assistant position supports the College of Graduate Studies by ensuring graduate students will have relevant work experience that will be critical to their post graduate careers, such as project management, collaboration, the opportunity to gain full advisory experience with student organizations, and to serve as a key staff member of a student-centered environment.
In addition, the Graduate Assistant will contribute to the impact CSE continues to have on the retention of undergraduate students at Bridgewater State University through the direct interactions with said students, and by the very nature of their work.
Responsibilities include co-advising Bridgewater State University's Program Council (PC) in unison with the Coordinator of Student Programs. This includes but is not limited to facilitation of meetings, holding one on one's with student leaders, oversight of organization operations, and oversight of marketing efforts. The Graduate Assistant will also be an active participant in the recruitment and training of new student leaders who will serve on PC, actively support the leadership development of the members of Program Council and creating opportunities for such development when possible.
They will assist with the management and coordination of the University Mascot program, assist in the planning process of student programs, and provide event coverage when deemed necessary, including nights and weekends. They will support and connect with a caseload of assigned established student organizations, educate and enforce University/CSE policies/procedures in relation to student leaders and Program Council, assist with CSE related trainings, workshops, and retreats for registered student organizations, support and guide student organizations through the re-registration and recognition process, and provide day of event support for events such as The Crimson Experience, Homecoming, Admitted Student Days, and other Programs and Events throughout the academic year when not conflicting with class schedule, including nights and weekends.
They will serve as a role model for students and assist with furthering the mission of the department through other programmatic duties and special projects as they arise during the academic year.
Preferred Qualifications include previous involvement with student organizations, orientation programs, or event planning in a college setting, previous experience with an online student organization management platform, experience in leading, advising, and/or supervising students, and enrollment in the Higher Education Counseling Master's Program. Required Qualifications include the ability to advise student leaders/groups, ability to work independently, weekend availability as needed for events, experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Teams, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, adaptability and ability to work in an ever-changing environment, and ability to interact well with the diverse segments of the Bridgewater State University community.
Physical Demands include the ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.
