This posting is for potential part‑time, non‑benefited, day program faculty positions in the Philosophy Department. The current salary rate for a typical 3 credit lecture course taught by a new part‑time faculty member in the day program is $4,005.00, paid through bi‑weekly payroll direct deposit. Rates may vary for other course types based on contact hour equivalencies.

Department Summary

The mission of the Philosophy Department at Bridgewater State University is to acquaint students with many of the ideas that have shaped the world, better enable them to reach their full potential as human beings, and offer rigorous yet flexible career preparation through the development of such skills as logical reasoning, the ability to read carefully and analyze arguments, creative and rigorous problem solving, confidence in written and spoken argument and discussion.

The Department of Philosophy seeks qualified Part Time Faculty who are enthusiastic teachers and dedicated to working with undergraduates for the 2026/2027 academic year. Candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities. Candidates must be able to teach in‑person, on campus.

Specific course offerings: CRIT 111:
Foundations of Logical Reasoning, a requirement in the BSU core curriculum. This course introduces students to inductive and deductive reasoning, argument mapping, and informal fallacies and cognitive biases.

Successful candidates will be staff members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Philosophy or a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching introductory logic.
