Position Overview
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring, and 6 for summer.
Job SummaryThe BSU EXCEL (Extraordinary Expectations for Career, Education, and Life) Program offers this unique assistantship to qualified graduate students who seek meaningful work supporting students with disabilities accessing Bridgewater State University. The program provides opportunities in academics, vocational training, internships, and campus involvement for students with autism, intellectual or other developmental disabilities.
ResponsibilitiesMeet regularly with students to support development of daily living, employability, vocational, and self‑determination skills. Assist students and their Ed Coaches by tracking progress with program evaluation tools. Students must be available daytime 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at least two days per week.
Provide individualized support as an Education Coach in classes and as a Job Coach in internships, often working 1:1 with an EXCEL program student. Work additional hours outside the traditional academic year, including two weeks prior to and at the end of each semester to support orientations, trainings, and end‑of‑semester meetings.
Participate in training and ongoing support from program staff.
Preferred Qualifications- Valid driver's license and willingness to transport students to nearby destinations in Bridgewater State University vans.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Energetic self‑starter capable of completing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Fluency with Microsoft Office 365 and various social media platforms.
- Sensitivity to student needs, concerns, and individual issues; flexibility, patience, and high professional integrity.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good judicial and academic standing.
- Ability to move around campus to support program students in classes and internships.
