The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
Overview: Under the direction of the Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support and Compliance, responsible for providing academic support and guidance to at-risk student-athletes as well as assisting in the development and implementation of student-athlete leadership programs.
Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one academic support for at-risk student-athletes
- Communicate with head coaches regarding academics, workshop development, and leadership programming for student-athletes
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of the Student-Athlete Freshman Workshop and Bear Up! Sophomore leadership programs
- In collaboration with the Office of Career Services, coordinate and implement the Career Bear Workshop series for Junior and Senior Student-athletes
- Coordinate the Student-Athlete Peer Mentor program
- Assist in NCAA Compliance efforts as needed
- Communicate and cooperate effectively with Athletic Department staff, University employees, and students to accomplish the mission of the Department and University
- Assist the Office of Equal Opportunity /Title IX Coordinator office as a responsible employee with regard to incidents of sexual or gender-based harm or discrimination
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Admission into one of the graduate programs at Bridgewater State University
- Effective writing and communication skills, including social media
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various constituents and stakeholders to make an impact as a member of a team and diverse community
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates
- Experience as a collegiate student-athlete
- Engagement in leadership-based programming
- Leadership experience in athletics, club, organizational, academic, or committee opportunities
- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds with appropriate accommodation
