Scholarly Communications and Digital Initiatives Librarian
This position provides expertise and leadership in digital initiatives and scholarly communications at Bridgewater State University. The librarian in this role supports the creation, curation, organization, and long‑term preservation of digital projects and collections, including Open Educational Resources (OER), Open Access (OA), and other digital publishing initiatives. Working collaboratively with campus partners, this role develops and advances digital and open‑access projects across the university and represents the library on campus and state committees on these topics.
The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000, dependent on experience and education.
The Clement
C. Maxwell Library is open an average of 86 hours each week during the academic year. It is a busy, dynamic place with classrooms, academic and administrative offices throughout the building. The library serves all BSU students, faculty, staff, researchers from across the country and world, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities.
Library Services is dedicated to meeting the needs of its communities, updating its service models as pedagogies and librarianship evolve, renewing the knowledge and skills of librarians and staff as practices change, deploying new technologies to improve interactions with library users, and enhancing user experiences. - Collaborate with university departments, faculty, staff, and students to develop, promote, and integrate digital and scholarly projects.
- Work independently or with other librarians to design and provide instruction, continuing education, online resources, and consultations related to scholarly communication and digital initiatives.
- Lead all aspects of the institutional repository, including workflow development, project prioritization, ingest/harvest processes, metadata standards, policies and procedures, and assessment; liaise with repository and digital content management system vendors.
- Collaborate with the Archives and Special Collections Librarian to make historical and archival materials available digitally in innovative, inclusive, and equitable ways, including participation in the creation of digital exhibits.
- Support digitizing content from Archives & Special Collections when necessary, including helping with digitization requests from campus administration and alumni association.
- Supervise digitization projects when needed.
- Promote the digital repository to campus stakeholders, university alumni, and peer institutions.
- Provide guidance and expertise to university partners in relation to OER initiatives prioritized by BSU and its racial equity goals; implement and maintain platforms and tools that support the creation and use of OER and open pedagogy.
- Serve as the library’s lead representative on the Bridgewater State University OER Advisory Council and the State Department of Higher Education Open and Low‑Cost Educational Resources Advisory Council (OLERAC).
