Position Information
Title
Bridgewater State University’s Watershed Access Lab (WAL) equips and supports educators to recognize and address local water and other environmental issues in their communities. By partnering with local schools and communities, WAL brings awareness about local watershed concerns, including limited water resources, water pollution, land use, and water management. WAL provides community leaders/teachers with the tools and resources they need to empower the next generation of watershed and environmental stewards to make sustainable decisions.
The City Lab/Watershed Access Lab Outreach Student Assistant will assist in the administration and day‑to‑day activities within the City Lab and Watershed Access Lab Outreach Programs. During this experience, students will be immersed in the laboratory, assisting educators in preparing and teaching hands‑on modules to visiting elementary, middle and high‑school students.
Duties may include:
- Assist in administrative support for outreach programs offered through City Lab, the Watershed Access Lab and CASE
- Assist in preparation of materials/chemicals for use in City Lab/Watershed Access Lab programs
- Assist with setup, breakdown and cleanup of materials for City Lab/Watershed Access Lab programs
- Assist with instruction and equipment demonstration for middle and high school students participating in City Lab/Watershed Access Lab programs
Available hours for this position will be between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Shifts can be as short as 1–2 hours and up to 6 hours. Your scheduled hours may be altered due to reduced workload. We can’t guarantee hours each week.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
- Must have a Work Study award in your financial aid package.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with middle and high school students or interest in working with this audience.
- Chemical preparation skills.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometer, micropipetting, and the scientific method.
- Reliable.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
