The Honors Program Peer Advisor is a representative of our diverse community of over 1300 students and should have a commitment to academic success, community engagement, service, leadership, and social and racial justice.
Honors Program Peer Advisors help shape the Honors Program at BSU by sharing their insights and developing presentations, programming, and/or content that will enhance prospective and current honors students’ experiences. There is ample opportunity to develop professional skills and competencies as student employees are encouraged to attend campus workshops and speak at recruitment events, in classes, and/or student organization meetings, to engage with their fellow bears as well as prospective students and their families, sharing their story and experiences.
Honors Program Peer Advisors build community within Honors and on campus at large, and create meaningful relationships with Honors and BSU students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Students in this role will also collaborate with the Honors Program Leadership Team on projects and office tasks that relate to and advance our goals.
Hours for this position will be 5-7 hours per week.
Responsibilities- Advise honors students throughout the academic year via 1:1 appointments
- Co-facilitate group advising sessions and workshops
- Assist with the creation and organization of the honors course brochure, advising guide, and other course registration resources each semester
- Answer advising-related questions that come into the honors program email inbox
Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
Preferred Qualifications
- An honors student in good academic standing
- Committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the Honors Program and at BSU , both philosophically and in daily practices
- Committed to racial and social justice
- Comfortable and confident speaking to groups of people in person, and on phone/video calls
- Interested in serving as a peer mentor and speaking with other students about their Honors and BSU experience
- Able to manage time and attention to achieve goals and deadlines
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team
- Able to maintain focus and remain detail-oriented in a busy environment
