Job Summary
The Master Data Governance and Maintenance Manager is responsible for driving the business strategy by ensuring the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of high‑quality, reliable master data. This role is pivotal in establishing a culture where master data is inherently trusted, facilitating seamless business transactions, informed decision‑making, and operational excellence.
Principal Responsibilities- Lead and manage data governance activities for Customer and Material Master, improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets.
- Establish and ensure adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices at both departmental and business/functional levels to achieve the required consistency, quality, and protection.
- Serve as a point of escalation for governance, data quality, and protection issues and work closely with business and functional leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory protection requirements, and support strategic departmental requirements.
- Define policies and processes that control how data is managed in the organization.
- Develop strategies and implement data rules, streamline data processes, define a standard master data dictionary, and prepare User Requirement Specifications related to system enhancements, automation, and data integration needs to improve data quality and reduce manual data entry errors.
- Maintain trust in master data by providing ongoing stewardship and oversight; ensuring timely, secure access to master data to support business transactions and decision‑making.
- Maintain compliance throughout the data lifecycle in accordance with corporate policies, regulations, and laws.
- Improve efficiency by optimizing and digitizing processes, clearly defining roles and responsibilities, and minimizing master data management costs.
- Establish and support multi‑domain MDM governance processes to ensure the accuracy and completeness of Salesforce, SAP, and other internal ERP system data.
- Manage the Data Governance and Master Data Maintenance team, providing strategy, guidance, coaching, and performance controls.
- Manage a large and complex portfolio of projects with master data implications, ensuring that priorities are set and deadlines are achieved.
- Approve Customer Data Quality Rules for assigned Master Data Objects in SFDC and SAP.
- Recommend changes, automation opportunities, and define new data structures for MDM Governance Steerco approval.
- Conduct regular consultations with other functions to evaluate data needs and recommend improvement projects.
- Provide support and guidance to data stewards, technical analysts, business users, and IT on data topics.
- Ensure the integrity of system data in core systems (SAP, SFDC, Gold) and downstream systems that consume this data.
- Collaborate with Data Architecture to define where data needs to be stored and how to integrate with other system data needs.
- Approve data quality management and provide feedback to the sales team to ensure current data in SFDC is accurate.
- Approve cleansing data strategy.
- Define KPIs to ensure data create/change SLAs are being met.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or an IT‑related field.
- Minimum of 10 years in business process management and/or data governance.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- Experience with process management tools (e.g., BPM, Six Sigma) and data governance frameworks.
- Proven track record in leading strategic process improvement and data governance initiatives.
- Deep understanding of data quality management, data protection, and compliance.
- Strong leadership abilities to guide and inspire teams.
- Strategic thinker with expertise in process optimization and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to foster a culture of data excellence and continuous improvement.
- Proactive problem‑solving skills with a strategic vision for data governance.
- Proficiency in process mapping, data governance software tools, and data analytics.
- Strong project management skills to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously.
The salary range for this position is $135,000–$180,000. Messer provides medical, dental, vision, short‑term disability, life insurance, paid time off, and other voluntary benefits such as long‑term disability in accordance with the terms and conditions of these plans.
