Overview
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports science and engineering in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
This position supports undergraduate summer research in mathematics as part of an NSF-funded project in abstract, applied, and computational harmonic analysis.
Projects and responsibilitiesStudents may work on one of two research directions:
We are especially interested in strong undergraduate students who are mathematically mature, reliable, creative, and excited to work on challenging open problems. Preference will be given to students with strength in proof-based mathematics. Some computational or programming experience is helpful, though not required for every aspect of the work. Students interested in the HRT project should be willing to learn formal proof methods and work carefully with symbolic and computational tools.
BackgroundsRelevant backgrounds may include real analysis, abstract algebra, harmonic analysis, number theory, mathematical computing, formal methods, theoretical computer science, and scientific writing.
