Research Assistant/Associate, Biology
Graduate Assistant (GA)
We are seeking a Graduate Assistant to work 20 hours per week in the Natural History Collection within the Department of Biological Sciences. The GA will receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
ResponsibilitiesDuties may include:
- mounting, labeling, preparing, and/or maintaining specimens
- identifying species according to currently recognized taxonomy
- assembling and maintaining public displays of specimens
- maintaining the collection’s online and social media presence
This position will develop skills and experience in museum curation, database management, and the science of taxonomy. These skills are valuable to individuals interested in a career in museum science, organismal or evolutionary biology, or systematics. Opportunities may become available to contribute to research projects involving the collection or analysis of biological specimens.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience handling biological specimens
- Basic understanding of biological taxonomy and nomenclature
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with scientific literature
- Ability to lift specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
- Typing
