Primary Role

Upkeep of the laboratory environment, including but not limited to routine tasks such as cleaning/storage of glassware, reagent preparation, Cl2 checks, water system checks, balance checks, temperature checks and sample disposal.
Provide laboratory support for chemical and/or microbiological testing of water and/or wastewater samples for customers and employees. Prioritize and regulate work schedule to meet overall goals and objectives of the lab.

Key Accountabilities
  • Conduct routine and non‑routine testing utilizing various wet chemistry methods and microbiological testing. Prepare and test samples according to prescribed methods, within proper holding times and laboratory goals.
  • Ensure and certify that data quality meets regulatory requirements. Understand and follow all QA/QC protocols to ensure all data meets EPA and NJ DEP accrediting authority standards and certified laboratory standards.
  • Enhance customer satisfaction. Cultivate productive customer relationships with internal customers and business partners. Work to inform both internal and external customers of issues related to water quality promptly after a problem has been discovered.
  • Enhance performance and safety within the laboratory by promoting a positive team environment. Cross train in all areas of laboratory operations to develop proficiency in all laboratory functions.
  • Inventory and maintain laboratory supplies in sufficient quantities to maintain laboratory operations at all times.
  • Pick up samples from water company facilities as required.
  • Prepare sample kits/coolers for use by company employees on a daily basis.
  • Ensure samples are received and are in compliance with Chain of Custody (CoC) procedures.
  • Maintain quality control charts/records for laboratory equipment as required.
  • Data entry and use of company business platforms such as SAP, LIMS and Microsoft Office products.
  • Available to work during regular and emergent situations.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills

Must have basic knowledge of:

  • Basic chemistry and biological testing techniques.
  • Laboratory QA/QC protocols/programs.
  • EPA, NELAC and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Laboratory data base and computer software.

Skills:

  • Able to speak, read, write and understand the English language.
  • Good quality control skills (e.g., interpreting technical instructions, problem solving, attention to detail).
  • Good interpersonal skills (e.g., cooperation, teamwork, tact/diplomacy).
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral or through diagrams.
  • Ability to follow interpret and follow schedules
  • Must demonstrate proficiency using various business platforms such as SAP, LIMS and Microsoft Office products.
Experience/Education
  • AA/AS in a science‑related field which includes the successful completion of the following required courses:
    General Chemistry 1&2, Organic Chemistry 1&2, General Biology 1&2, Microbiology and college level algebra.
  • BA/BS in Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Science are preferred.
  • One (1) year of laboratory experience is desired.
  • Primarily an indoor laboratory environment. Outside work is necessary in all weather conditions as required.
  • Laboratory work will require periods of standing while performing testing procedures.
  • Data entry will require periods of sitting.
