Position: Electrician I

Position Summary

The mission of the Department of Facilities Management is to create, maintain, and manage a physical environment that enhances teaching, learning, and living; and serves to support our campus constituents and our region through responsible stewardship of resources. Successful candidates will be staff members that can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the Department of Facilities Management in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.

Conduct electrical repairs and preventive maintenance inside and outside. Test, repair, install and/or maintain various types of electrical equipment. Perform related duties as required. Write and review technical specifications for equipment and projects with college and outside contractors. This is a full‑time, 12‑month AFSCME position. Salary Range: $2,439.63 bi‑weekly (Grade 15, Step
6).

Schedule:

Tuesday through Saturday, 08:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Days off:
Sunday and Monday.

Location:

Campus Wide. Participate in on‑call rotation. This is an essential position. Initial assignment only. Subject to change according to institutional needs.

Key Responsibilities / Duties
  • Maintain, repair, install, and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Supervise work performed by external vendors/contractors.
  • Write specifications for and estimate the costs of repairs, remodeling, or alterations.
  • Act as a liaison to university staff, external personnel, vendors, and contractors engaged in building activities.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain paper and electronic records and prepare reports.
  • Submit personal time and attendance paperwork and ensure minimum staffing levels.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of control systems.
  • Maintain inventory levels.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of electronic work order system and preventive maintenance systems.
Requirements
  • Must possess a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master’s Electrician License.
  • Work experience in an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Minimum of three (3) professional reference entries.
