Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in South Plainfield, New Jersey. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing heavy‑duty vehicles, performing preventive maintenance, component inspections, diagnosing mechanical and electronic problems, and supporting facility operations. You will interact with customers and customers' drivers and use the Shop Management System for documentation.
Compensation & Schedule- Hourly Pay: $32.00 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification (up to $700 total)
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 per quarter
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, weekends off - Hours:
First Shift 6:00 am – 2:30 pm

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree, or technical certifications preferred
- Basic mechanical tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
- Two (2) years or more of classroom training and work experience in relevant field preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
- Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
- Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background and motor‑vehicle check (including last 3 years of employment records)
- Must drive Ryder vehicles
- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
- Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections
- Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems and use diagnostic computers when applicable
- Identify root cause of failures and perform required repairs
- Replace defective components as instructed
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints
- Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation
- Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
- Provide support duties as required, including service island support
