Plumber & Steamfitter I

This opportunity creates a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors by performing general plumbing and steam fitting work. The Plumber & Steamfitter I opportunity will involve; installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, high pressure steam pipes and fittings, related steam operated equipment, condensate pumps, boilers, steam heat auxiliary equipment, including both supply and drain piping and related fixtures, and related control and metering equipment.

Your contributions in this role will help create, maintain, and manage a physical environment that enhances teaching, learning, living and working for our diverse Bridgewater State University community.

Essential

Duties include:

installing, repairing, maintaining, and/or altering steam and plumbing systems; inspecting buildings to determine need for repairs; reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, instructions or layouts to understand construction work to be done; scheduling installation, maintenance, and/or repair work; estimating length of time, cost of materials and manpower needed; handling complaints from building occupants regarding assigned work; performing related duties such as erecting scaffolding, riggings, and/or ladders;

laying out drop cloths; fabricating miscellaneous metal products; sharpening and tempering various tools; cleaning tools and equipment; preparing work reports; and training employees on the job. Alter, repair and maintain deionized water systems. Install piping, sprinkler, gas distribution and industrial cafeteria systems. Participate in on-call rotation and details. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications include: commitment to customer service excellence/support to enhance an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion; ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; broad knowledge involving principles, methods, techniques, handheld tools and power tools, measurement tools and other equipment to successfully complete plumbing, pipe fitting, pipe threading and steam fitting procedures; knowledge and application of the safety practices and procedures followed in plumbing and steamfitting;

knowledge and application of the laws, rules and regulations governing plumbing and steamfitting; possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Plumber's license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters; ability to stand for prolonged periods of time; ability to lift and carry heavy objects; ability to work in cramped or confined space.

Preferred Qualifications include: current and valid Massachusetts State Drivers License.
