Building Inspector I or II or II

General Purpose

Performs building inspections for Box Elder County and its contracted communities, covering all phases such as structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical, as provided by law.

Works under the general supervision of the Chief Building Official/Facility Manager.

• Deputy to the building official as directed.
• Review all building plans to determine compliance with codes.
• Issue building permits, collect fees, issue receipts, etc.
• Perform all inspections per State and County Building Codes.
• Meet with owners, contractors, etc., explain building code requirements and violations; verify construction meets standards; ensure safety.
• Enforce all county and applicable city zoning, mobile home, and subdivision ordinances in relevant areas.
• Keep a record of all inspections performed.
• Assist the Board of Appeals on appeal cases and attend meetings related to those cases.
• Continuously update knowledge of building code requirements.
• Perform miscellaneous maintenance on county buildings as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.
