Are you an experienced Switchgear Technician or Electrical Panel Fitter looking for a role that combines hands‑on workshop work with specialist field service across the UK?
We’re looking for an Electrical Switchgear Service Engineer to join an established business — someone confident with switch gear, control panels, and electrical assemblies, who enjoys variety between factory work and on‑site maintenance.
As the Switchgear Technician you will:
* Carry out DC switch gear maintenance on customer sites across the UK
* Attend planned visits (typically 4–6 per month) plus reactive callouts as part of a rota
* Provide fault‑finding, testing, repairs and technical support to customers on site
* Assemble AC & DC switch gear, control panels, busbars and associated equipment at the factory in Hove (where you will spend most of your working time)
* Interpret engineering drawings, wiring schematics and GA diagrams
* Assist on AC switch gear installation, commissioning and maintenance projects
* The role requires regular travel using company vehicles, majority of work is in the South or London with occasional trips to Liverpool, Newcastle, Dublin and in the future possibly abroad too
Skills & experience required:
* Switchgear assembly, service and repair experience
* Proven background working with switch gear, control panels, busbars, or similar
* Ability to read wiring schematics & engineering diagrams
* Full and clean UK driving licence
* Willingness to work on call and travel as required
* Ability to pass a PTS (Personal Track Safety) Medical
* Engineering apprenticeship, qualification or similar highly desirable
* ECS Card (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) and PTS Certification would be a distinct advantage
Salary, hours and company benefits:
* Up to £35,000 based on experience and qualifications, plus overtime and on-call allowance
* 37.5 hours a week, 7.45am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 7.45am to 12.15pm Fridays plus on call approx. once a month as part of a rota
