Vikan Middle School, a 27J School located in Brighton, is seeking two dedicated, compassionate, and student‑centered Special Education Affective Needs (AN) Paraprofessionals to join our growing team. The full‑time positions provide opportunities to build relationships, support student growth, and help create a safe, structured, and caring learning environment.
AboutThe Role
- Build strong relationships with students, helping them feel safe and supported.
- Support academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional growth by working closely with teachers and support staff.
- Implement individualized supports aligned to student IEPs, behavior plans, and instructional goals.
- Assist with crisis prevention and intervention using de‑escalation strategies.
- Collaborate with Affective Needs teachers, special education staff, counselors, deans, and administrators to ensure consistent and coordinated support.
- Provide direct instruction and/or academic support in accordance with students’ IEPs.
- Modify academic materials or classroom environment under direction from the Special Education teacher or related service providers.
- Identify and facilitate peer relationships and natural supports.
- Follow prescribed behavior intervention plans throughout the school day and during extracurricular activities.
- Maintain required forms and records as requested by the Special Education Teacher or related service providers.
- De‑escalate students using approved CPI measures and prescribed behavior intervention plans.
- Communicate observations, concerns, activities and progress with teachers and therapists.
- Assist with minor clerical duties for both special and general education teachers as needed.
- Attend training sessions required by the building principal, special education teacher, or director of special education.
- Attend student staffings as requested.
- Collaborate with other paraprofessionals and follow direct instruction from the special education team.
- Follow daily routines and schedules for individual students to implement consistency.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Classified Grade L, $21.66 per hour to start, depending on relevant experience. 8.5 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday, 9‑month work schedule paid over 12 months. Position is eligible for benefits.
Qualifications- Ability to read and interpret Behavior Intervention Plans, IEPs, and staff/student handbooks.
- Ability to collect data, write routine reports, and simple correspondences.
- Basic math skills, including algebra and geometry.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred at time of hire or within 2 months of hire.
- Must pass a post‑offer, pre‑employment physical.
- Must pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with students with social and/or emotional disabilities preferred but not required.
- Skills in crisis management, flexibility, patience, and the ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
- Valid driver’s license required to obtain a small vehicle permit, if required to transport students.
