School Posting Information: Vikan Middle School is looking for an enthusiastic, student-centered Long-Term Substitute Band/Orchestra Director to lead and support our music students during an extended leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator or musician to join our school community and make a meaningful impact on students through music.

What You'll DoAs our Long-Term Substitute Band/Orchestra Director, you will:
- Lead engaging, standards-aligned band and/or orchestra instruction for middle school students.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students and create a classroom where every student feels valued and supported.
- Continue established curriculum, rehearsal routines, performance preparation, and instructional practices to provide consistency for students.
- Develop students' musical skills, including performance technique, music literacy, ensemble skills, and musicianship.
- Prepare students for concerts, performances, and other school/community events.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and pride in the performing arts.
- Collaborate with music colleagues, classroom teachers, school leaders, and families.
- Maintain a safe, organized, inclusive, and productive rehearsal environment.
- Provide feedback that helps students recognize their growth and identify opportunities to improve.
- Support students in taking ownership of their learning, performance, and contribution to the ensemble.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding performances, expectations, and student progress.
- Care for and appropriately manage instruments, equipment, music, and other program resources.
- Has experience teaching or directing middle school band and/or orchestra.
- Has strong knowledge of instrumental music instruction and ensemble practices.
- Builds strong relationships with adolescents and understands the unique developmental needs of middle school students.
- Creates a positive classroom culture grounded in respect, empathy, collaboration, and high expectations.
- Is organized, dependable, flexible, and able to step into an established program and provide continuity.
- Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Brings energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to music-making.
- Believes all students can grow as musicians and learners.
- Is committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student has an opportunity to participate, contribute, and succeed.
