Job Title
Plant Operator I or II
Job Description This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon the candidate's qualifications:
Plant Operator I ($28.96 - $40.40 hourly)
Performs skilled and unskilled work and tasks required to operate and control the performance of liquid and solids stream unit process equipment. Works under the direction of a Treatment Supervisor or Assistant Treatment Superintendent. May be assigned work by a Plant Operator – Lead.
Plant Operator II ($33.78 - $47.13 hourly)
Performs skilled work with the overall operation of liquid and solids stream treatment facilities. Works under the direction of a Treatment Supervisor.
This position is a Night Shift position working a rotating schedule. Below is an example of the schedule:
** New hires assigned to the night shift receive a 25% shift differential. **
Due to the nature of the industry, day/night shifts are not guaranteed and may be subject to change based on permit and plant needs.

Qualifications Knowledge of:
Plant Operator I
Participation in Metro's Wastewater Treatment Operations Staff Training Program, including enrollment and completion of assigned curriculum.Performs routine monitoring of wastewater unit processes and support systems equipment.Performs and assists with control adjustments to unit process variables to maintain optimal performance.Performs field measurements, observations, and analyses required for plant monitoring.Follows Standard Operating Procedures and provides feedback for support systems equipment and unit processes.Follow established operational reporting lines in all operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure clear communication, accountability, and efficient decision-making.Follow established operational reporting lines when reporting incidents, requesting resources, addressing interdepartmental concerns, initiating non-routine tasks or changes to standard operating procedures.Performs equipment inspections and evaluations. Places equipment in and out of service.Performs adjustments to process equipment and facility systems.Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks and ensures housekeeping standards are met.Performs Lock Out Tag Out on out-of-service equipment.Provides input for the creation and revision of Standard Operating Procedures.Demonstrates continued progression in operator training.Performs other duties as assigned.Plant Operator II
Participation in Metro's On-Job Training (OJT) program, including enrollment and completion of assigned curriculum.Performs monitoring of wastewater unit processes and support systems equipment.Provides and validates control adjustments to unit process variables to maintain optimal performance.Assists with the training of junior operators.Performs field measurements, observations, and analyses required for plant monitoring.Performs and assists with the development of Standard Operating Procedures for support systems equipment and unit processes.Follow established operational reporting lines in all operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure clear communication, accountability, and efficient decision-making.Follow established operational reporting lines when reporting incidents, requesting resources, addressing interdepartmental concerns, initiating non-routine tasks or changes to standard operating procedures.Conducts routine equipment inspections and evaluations, places equipment in and out of service.Optimize adjustments to process equipment and facility systems. Validates conditions and operations.Performs routine preventive maintenance tasks, identifies and ensures housekeeping standards are met.Perform flushing's and valve exercising preventative maintenance.Performs and ensures proper Lock Out Tag Out on out-of-service equipment.Demonstrates continued progression in operator training.Performs other duties as assigned.SPECIAL
NOTE:
ALL Plant Operators must complete the Basic Operations Module requirements of the Wastewater Treatment Operations Staff Training Program, including obtaining certifications, within specified timeframe.
