Branch Manager or Tow Manager About Rocky Mountain Truck Centers Rocky Mountain Truck Centers (RMTC) provides 24/7 roadside assistance, heavy‑duty towing and recovery, and truck repair services for commercial fleets and owner‑operators. Our roadside technicians and wrecker operators work in high‑risk, high‑urgency environments where safety, documentation, and customer care are non‑negotiable. Position Summary The Dual Wrecker Operator / Roadside Diesel Technician role combines:
Commission‑based towing and recovery work operating light‑, medium‑, and/or heavy‑duty wreckers; and Hourly roadside diesel technician work, performing mobile diagnostics and repairs on Class 5–8 trucks and trailers, with limited in‑shop work as needed. You will respond to breakdowns, perform on‑site diagnostics and repairs, tow or recover disabled vehicles when required, and complete all work in accordance with DOT/FMCSA, OEM, and RMTC standards.
Success in this role requires strong mechanical ability, safe wrecker operation, accurate documentation, and disciplined use of company systems.
Key Responsibilities Roadside Diesel Technician (RS) – Mobile Repair Respond to roadside service calls for disabled commercial trucks and trailers. Perform on‑site diagnostics and repairs on mechanical, electrical, air brake, HVAC, aftertreatment, and hydraulic systems. Operate a fully equipped service truck; drive to breakdown locations on highways, interstates, truck stops, yards, and remote areas. Perform emergency tire changes, air system repairs, lighting repairs, and other roadside services.
Use OEM diagnostic tools and software for fault codes, schematics, and guided repair procedures. Document labor, parts, findings, and repair stories accurately in company systems (e.g., Tech Wrench and/or Protractor). Capture required photos and complete inspection lines per company standards. Wrecker Operator – Towing & Recovery Safely operate light‑, medium‑, and/or heavy‑duty wreckers to tow, recover, or transport disabled commercial vehicles.
Perform winch‑outs, load shifts, accident recovery, and complex towing scenarios in coordination with dispatch and law enforcement as needed. Set up safe work areas (cones, lighting, hazard zones) and manage accident or roadside scenes. Follow company standards for rigging, driveline and axle removal, securement, height/weight limits, and wheel torque. Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections on wreckers and equipment and report any issues.
Use mobile apps for timekeeping, job status updates, photos, signatures, and invoicing support. Collect payment at the scene on required jobs; do not release units or keys before payment when policy requires. Documentation, Communication & Customer Service Maintain real‑time communication with dispatch, event coordinators, service advisors, and branch leadership. Provide accurate ETAs, status updates, and completion notifications for all calls.
Obtain required customer and driver signatures, IDs, and authorizations per company policy. Maintain professional, calm communication with customers under high‑stress conditions. Ensure that all jobs are fully documented with clear notes, photos, and completed tasks before closing. Safety & Compliance Adhere to all RMTC safety policies, PPE requirements, and roadside safety protocols. Comply with DOT/FMCSA Hours‑of‑Service and logbook/telematics rules as applicable.
Complete and document pre‑trip, post‑trip, and periodic equipment inspections. Work in alignment with roadside safety, fuel, and pre‑trip compliance protocols. Immediately report any accidents, safety incidents, damage, or near‑miss events. Work Schedule & On‑Call…
