Senior Tax Associate

Athenahealth is seeking a Senior Tax Associate to support our mission-driven healthcare technology business. In this role, you will prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns, support quarterly and annual tax provision (ASC 740), and ensure accurate, timely reporting. You'll conduct tax research, analyze book-to-tax differences, and assist with audits and notices. Partnering with Finance and Accounting, you'll assess tax impacts of new initiatives, optimize processes, and help maintain strong internal controls in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns for Athenahealth entities
• Support quarterly and annual tax provision and ASC 740 reporting
• Perform tax research and document positions for complex transactions
• Analyze variances between tax and book results and reconcile data
• Assist with responses to tax notices, audits, and regulatory inquiries
• Collaborate with Finance and Accounting on tax impacts of business initiatives
• Identify process improvements and automation opportunities in tax workflows
• Maintain tax calendars and ensure timely, accurate filings
• Support planning for state nexus, apportionment, and credits
• Provide tax insight for cross-functional projects within the healthcare tech environment
