Senior Software Engineer, Billing Workflows

Athenahealth is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and optimize billing workflow capabilities for our cloud-based healthcare platform. You will architect scalable services, integrate with EHR and revenue cycle systems, and improve reliability and performance of billing features used by medical practices nationwide. Collaborating with product, data, and clinical teams, you'll translate complex healthcare and payment requirements into elegant technical solutions, mentor engineers, champion best practices, and support continuous delivery in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable billing workflow services for Athenahealth's cloud platform
• Integrate billing capabilities with EHR, revenue cycle, and payment systems
• Collaborate with product, data, and clinical stakeholders to refine requirements
• Improve performance, availability, and reliability of billing-related services
• Implement robust testing, monitoring, and alerting for production systems
• Contribute to technical architecture and design decisions
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices
• Participate in code reviews and continuous delivery pipelines
