Engineering Manager

Athenahealth seeks an Engineering Manager, Patient Payment to lead a team building cloud-based payment solutions that improve how patients pay for care. You will guide engineers in designing, developing, and operating secure, scalable services integrated with Athenahealth's EHR and revenue cycle platforms. Partner with product, UX, and data teams to deliver intuitive experiences, optimize payment workflows, and ensure compliance in a healthcare context.

Champion engineering best practices, mentor engineers, foster a collaborative, inclusive culture, and continuously improve quality, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers focused on patient payment solutions
• Own technical direction, architecture, and quality for payment services
• Collaborate with product, UX, and data teams to define and deliver payment features
• Ensure security, performance, and compliance with healthcare and payment regulations
• Implement engineering best practices, code reviews, and testing standards
• Oversee reliable operations, monitoring, and incident response for production systems
• Drive continuous improvement in delivery speed, stability, and code quality
• Support hiring, onboarding, and career development for team members
