Position Overview

Assist patients, visitors and staff entering the hospital by way finding and/or wheelchair assistance. Full‑time, 40‑hour position. Shift(s):
Evening and day available. Department:
Security Services.

Location:

Ann Arbor. Minimum hourly rate $15.93.

Note:

This is a fully on‑site role.

Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors, make eye contact and smile using standard customer‑service scripting. Direct them to appropriate areas and provide way‑finding assistance.
  • Access patient location information on the computer and escort patients when needed.
  • Offer assistance for parking validation, deliveries, and general inquiries about hospital services.
  • Call for taxi or shuttle service for patients/families when required.
  • Assist visitors/families during emergencies including fire, natural disasters, and patient/family situations.
  • Oversee immediate environment and report suspicious activity or individuals to security.
  • Maintain supplies and sign radio in/out daily; take responsibility for loss or damage of radio equipment.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with departmental and hospital information and updates.
  • Document changes to work schedule using When‑to‑Work and proper recording in the exception log.
  • Operate visitation management system after hours.
  • Use Health Quest to obtain patient room information for visitors.
  • Contact Engineering, Grounds, and Environmental Services as needed.
  • Coordinate with other departments to provide a safe, comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors.
Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Skills & Abilities
  • Computer/typing skills required to navigate Health Quest and the visitor management system.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective communication with diverse callers, patients, visitors, and staff, including sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to ethnic, cultural, medical, emotional, and mental health differences.
  • Ability to respond to stressful situations while maintaining emotional intelligence.
