Role Description The Design Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Brighton, MI, responsible for solicitation, selection and completion of design requirements across multiple construction projects. This position oversees the development and coordination of architectural and engineering documents, ensuring they meet project requirements, building codes, and client expectations. Day-to-day tasks include directing internal and external design teams, reviewing drawings and specifications, managing design schedules, and facilitating design review meetings with stakeholders.
The Design Manager collaborates closely with project managers, estimators, and field teams to align design intent with budget, constructability, and schedule constraints. The role also involves resolving design-related issues, coordinating with permitting authorities, and maintaining clear documentation to support smooth project delivery.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience managing design processes for commercial or industrial construction projects, including coordination of architectural and engineering disciplines.
- Proficiency in design and documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms) and familiarity with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.
- Strong project management skills, including schedule coordination, scope management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams and external consultants.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail and a systematic approach to reviewing plans, specifications, and design submittals to ensure accuracy and constructability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; professional licensure or registration is a plus.
- Experience in design-build delivery models and familiarity with national, regional, and local permitting processes is highly beneficial.
- Ability to work on-site in Brighton, MI, and collaborate effectively within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
