Job DescriptionPosition Title: Classroom Aide
Summary: Assist in activities within the preschool classroom and center. Work with typically developing children, children with disabilities, and interact with various preschool staff. Cover breaks for Lead Teachers and Associate Teachers.
Essential FunctionsNote: The following duties and responsibilities are considered essential functions under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). They represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
- Supports the social‑emotional needs of children.
- Understand the impact of toxic stress and trauma on children.
- Implement and build on the trauma‑informed framework of our classrooms.
- Support oral communication with children and adults.
- Promote social skills, such as sharing and helping others.
- Support age‑appropriate developmental skills.
- Cover breaks for preschool staff.
- Engage in activities with preschool children in the classroom and on the playground.
- Interact with preschool staff including Lead Teachers, Associate Teachers, and Food Service Workers.
- Cover vacancies of preschool staff to maintain licensing ratios, traveling to centers as necessary.
- Perform cleaning duties as assigned.
- Attend professional development opportunities as required.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with preschool‑age children.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain confidential when exposed to sensitive information.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and demonstrate flexibility.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience (as stated above).
- Knowledge of local school districts and community.
- Experience working with Head Start/Great Start Readiness Program families.
- CPR certification.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group settings to customers, clients, and other employees.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical DemandsThe employee is required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk, and hear regularly. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Work EnvironmentThe noise level is usually loud, a standard acceptable level for this environment. The employee is directly responsible for student safety, work output and well‑being.
