Position Summary

The Roadway Design Engineer, EIT supports the design and development of roadway and transportation projects, including local roadways, highways, multi‑use paths, and traffic control systems. This role contributes to technical design tasks, modeling, and field coordination in support of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist with the design of highway, arterial, and local roadway improvements.
  • Develop roadway geometry, signage, pavement marking, traffic signal, and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Prepare roadway 3D models using applicable design software.
  • Develop quantity calculations and engineer’s cost estimates.
  • Conduct site visits to support data collection and the design process.
  • Prepare alternative evaluation studies, technical memoranda, and similar reports.
  • Collaborate with project teams and technical specialists to support project delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Entry‑level to up to five (5) years of relevant transportation or roadway design experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a transportation focus.
  • Experience with Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
  • EIT certification with intent to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Prior internship or consulting experience in transportation or roadway design.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform light to moderate physical activity during site visits, including walking on uneven terrain.
  • Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to approximately 25 pounds.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
  • Combination of office‑based work and periodic field/site visits.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during site visits.
  • Standard office environment with moderate noise levels.

    Standard business hours with occasional flexibility based on project needs.
  • Travel Requirements:
    Approximately 15% or more periodic travel may be required to support site visits and project coordination.
