GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Engineering Services and the direct supervision of the Supervising Field Engineer, work activities in this position primarily involve assisting in construction oversight and administration related to a variety of public works projects including buildings and related systems, site development, pavements, bridges, telecommunications, sewer, water, dams and recreational facilities such as water parks, marinas, golf courses and play areas.

This is a temporary position running from May through August.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position works under the general supervision of the Chief of Engineering Services and the direct supervision of the Supervising Field Engineer. Required to work independently and exercise judgement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assist Field Engineers with projects and contract administration, ensuring conformance with engineering plans, specifications, construction standards and safety standards. Some physical work will be necessary to perform these duties.
  • Coordinate with contractors, architects/consulting engineers and park personnel to complete projects.
  • Assist in performing field technical research and developing solutions to engineering problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university with a concentration in Civil Engineering.
  • Ability to load, unload and move materials between work locations.
  • Ability to traverse sandy, marshy or wooded areas with even or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to operate computer with knowledge of applications in survey, design and construction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs, including working some weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to perform essential duties.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to understand and apply the principles and practices of civil engineering, design methods, computer-aided drafting and design, and construction contract provisions.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and its use.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED

Hand and power tools, personal computer including engineering and/or planning software; database, scheduling, publishing, spreadsheet, and word processing software; calculator, copy & fax machines; phone, radios, automobile and GIS data collector.
