Job Summary
Under the supervision of the PERT General Foreman, this position will be responsible and accountable for the completion of in‑field jobs on an assigned or emergency basis.
ResponsibilitiesField jobs include:
- Testing electro‑mechanical, solid‑state, and microprocessor‑based relays.
- Troubleshooting control circuits and commissioning new relays or electrical power equipment.
- Reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, operating instructions, and manuals for station transmission equipment.
- Working independently or as part of a team and communicating effectively.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Technology, or an equivalent degree.
- Successful completion of Red Tag Certification.
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of electrical transmission stations and lines.
- Proficiency with power and hand tools.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics.
- Strong computer and troubleshooting skills.
- Reliance on clear verbal communication.
- RARE: climbing poles, climbing stairs.
- OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, crawling, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, balancing, lifting up to 50 lbs.
- FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, walking, climbing on/off truck, gripping, lifting up to 50 lbs., reading, reaching, and performing tasks that require color vision and depth perception.
- CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): using manual dexterity, speaking clearly, seeing and hearing clearly over a standard workday.
- Works alone in energized high‑voltage substations (up to 345,000 V).
- Works in close proximity to energized equipment (up to 345,000 V).
- Exposure to static, induced voltages, EMF, RF, and microwave fields.
- Works with energized parts, equipment, and in confined spaces.
- Work may occur at varying heights above ground, in manholes, and on uneven terrain.
- Exposed to severe weather, traffic, and mobile equipment.
- Potential contact with irritating plants and biting or stinging insects.
