Environmental Health & Safety Associate

Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Associate to join our Midwest team.

As an EH&S Associate you will assist clients in protecting their employees, contractors, and customers and safeguarding the work and surrounding environment.

Working under the direction of the client EH&S staff, the EH&S Associate will help design, implement, and evaluate safety programs, test and inspect the operating environment, conduct training, and act as a delivery resource to support a robust EH&S operation. This hands‑on role will also support hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs, including waste handling, shipment preparation, material handling, inspections, and record keeping.

This position reports to a Regional EHS Director, is onsite at assigned clients and is based in the greater Detroit area.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections according to a defined procedure, evaluating the use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, protective eyewear, or hard hats, per applicable regulations.
  • Participate in safety inspections of machinery and equipment such as lifting devices, machine guards, or scaffolding.
  • Identify and measure potential accident and health hazards (toxic vapors, mold, mildew, explosive gas‑air mixtures) using calibrated equipment and/or collecting samples per defined procedure, and help implement appropriate control measures.
  • Help investigate accidents and injuries, identifying causes and recommending remedial actions.
  • Write reports, including accident or ergonomic reports, and enter information on required OSHA record‑keeping forms.
  • Communicate with client personnel regarding workplace environmental health and safety issues, implementing corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine EH&S safety training such as new‑employee orientation, hazard communication, and forklift operation.
  • Assist in developing environmental and occupational health and safety systems, including drafting or updating policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Support hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs.
  • Participate in on‑call responsibilities as part of the Emergency Response team (optional).
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related scientific field such as biology, chemistry, or engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated.
  • Willingness to work in a variety of industry settings, client cultures and work locations.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without future sponsorship.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to consent to motor vehicle record screening, criminal background check, pre‑employment physical and drug screen (inclusive of THC) and participate in a random drug screening program.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible hours within the work week (Monday through Friday).
  • Responsible for handling hazardous chemicals and biological waste, and for putting on and taking off personal protective equipment; this role is safety‑sensitive.
Preferred Requirements
  • Prior relevant industry experience.
  • Active HAZWOPER 24‑hour or 40‑hour certification.

Pay Range: $27–$30 USD.
