Transportation Roadway Design Engineer, EIT
Position Summary: The Roadway Design Engineer, EIT supports the design and development of roadway and transportation projects, including local roadways, highways, multi-use paths, and traffic control systems. This role contributes to technical design tasks, modeling, and field coordination in support of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions.
Essential Job Functions:- Assist with the design of highway, arterial, and local roadway improvements.
- Develop roadway geometry, signing, pavement marking, traffic signal, and maintenance of traffic plans.
- Prepare roadway 3D models using applicable design software.
- Develop quantity calculations and engineer’s cost estimates.
- Conduct site visits to support data collection and the design process.
- Prepare alternative evaluation studies, technical memoranda, and similar reports.
- Collaborate with project teams and technical specialists to support project delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Entry-level to up to five (5) years of relevant transportation or roadway design experience.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a transportation focus.
- Experience with Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
- EIT certification with intent to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Prior internship or consulting experience in transportation or roadway design.
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to perform light to moderate physical activity during site visits, including walking on uneven terrain.
- Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Combination of office-based work and periodic field/site visits.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during site visits.
- Standard office environment with moderate noise levels.

Full-time, regular position. - Work Schedule:
Standard business hours with occasional flexibility based on project needs. - Travel Requirements:
Approximately 15% or more periodic travel may be required to support site visits and project coordination. - Work Location:
Brighton, Michigan (office-based with field work as required).
