Lathe Machinist
This role is ideal for an experienced Lathe Turning Machinist who can independently set up and operate CNC lathes, interpret programs, and maintain high quality standards in a production environment. You will run parts with confidence, understand and work with CNC programs, and ensure all components meet precise tolerance requirements with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC lathes in a fast-paced production environment, including changeovers between jobs.
- Utilize and understand CNC lathe programming to edit, troubleshoot, and run jobs efficiently.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
- Inspect parts during and after machining to verify quality and adherence to tolerance specifications.
- Use common precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to confirm dimensions.
- Load, set, and work with fixtures and tooling to properly secure and machine parts.
- Operate independently with minimal assistance, demonstrating self-sufficiency in daily tasks.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with shop standards.
- Collaborate with team members and support continuous improvement of machining processes as needed.
- Minimum of 5 years of Lathe Turning machining experience in a production environment.
- Strong experience setting up and operating CNC lathes, including lathe setup and lathe operation.
- Proficiency in CNC lathe programming, including editing, troubleshooting, and running jobs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and detailed work instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to measure parts accurately using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Familiarity with fixtures and tooling, including loading and working with various setups.
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
- Experience with Mazak lathes and Mazatrol programming (the person machines and programming).
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with general machining and machine operating in a manufacturing environment.
- Background working with equipment such as drill presses and shears.
- Comfort working across different shifts, including first, second, or third shift as needed.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting tolerance and quality requirements.
- Ability to maintain an organized work area and follow safety practices consistently.

WorkEnvironment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility with CNC lathes, Mazak lathe equipment, and Mazatrol programming systems. Work is performed on 10-hour shifts with every other Saturday scheduled, with available shifts including first (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), second (3:15 p.m.–11:45 p.m.), and third (10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.). The night shift may be more operator-focused, while day-shift qualifications and programming experience are considered a strong plus.
The environment is production-oriented, requiring consistent attention to safety, cleanliness, and organization around machinery, fixtures, and tooling.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brighton, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $34.00/hr.
