Overview

Answer all Security calls. Dispatch Security officers to calls and document. Monitor all alarms and handle as per protocol. Contact local Law Enforcement for assistance and information. Learn access and badging.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a computer aided dispatch system (CAD) and monitor the progress of calls and dispatch units to SJMHS Hospital facilities (Chelsea, Livingston, Brighton, Canton, and Ann Arbor), logging unit arrival and completion times with appropriate notes and dispositions.
  • Interview callers to obtain provisional reports of incidents (criminal activity, fire, medical emergency, or other emergencies) and gather sufficient information to respond and dispatch appropriate assistance.
  • Provide field assistance to Security units by supplying information via name checks, I‑Track, Employee Identification, Parking Permits, Department Managers, and facilitation of inter‑departmental communication.
  • Respond to natural and other disaster alerts, determine and contact appropriate personnel for response, including emergency incident command activation.
  • Simultaneously perform various tasks while receiving multiple audio and visual sources (channels, talk groups, monitors, etc.) and ensure all tasks are completed at a proficient level of expertise.
  • Monitor, dispatch, notify, and document all alarms related to cardiac arrest, patient/employee injuries, Hugs, Temp Track, passport, fire, SJMHS panic alarms, building intrusion alarms, and emergency 911 prep radio alarms across Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Livingston, Brighton, and Canton locations.
  • Receive, evaluate, and ascertain information from Security dispatch calls regarding conduct of persons/patients/colleagues to detect dangerous practices, violations of SJMHS policy and procedures, and violations of Michigan law.
  • Monitor digital CCTV (Brighton 24, Livingston 32, Canton 4, Chelsea 32, and Ann Arbor 289) for criminal activity, suspicious circumstances, unauthorized entry, and dispatch Security Police response when observed.
  • Monitor Temp Track refrigerator alarms (221) and notify Nursing Management, coordinating response and documenting incidents electronically.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and dispatch over 800 Lennel System daily alarms, including panic, unauthorized entry, intrusion, and restricted access alarms.
  • Act as liaison for Washtenaw County civil parking citations and Saint Joseph Mercy Health parking citations, entering violation information into the data collection system and preparing violations for court adjudication.
  • Receive and respond to the E‑911 system for all emergencies reported by patients, visitors, or employees with speed and accuracy, ensuring the appropriate response for each call.
  • Coordinate and dispatch service calls for eight Reception Service Departments to ensure proper delivery of customer service, shuttle service, and patient care.
  • Draft, maintain, and file daily radio logs, trespass notifications, daily briefings, Code Green incidents, and other security-related documents as needed.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships with internal and external departments, partners, and the community, helping to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in resolutions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients, physicians, employees, and visitors, discussing such information only with appropriate personnel in private settings.
  • Conduct behavior in accordance with the values, mission, and code of conduct of St. Joseph Mercy Health System and/or Trinity Health.
  • Assume responsibility for safe job performance, ensuring personal and coworker safety, and report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices to management immediately.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health Standards of Conduct, the Organizational Integrity Program, and Security Police policies and procedures to assure compliance.
  • Provide pager exchange as needed.
