Job SummaryPerforms electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus.
Duties And Responsibilities- Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and written diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
- Assist in the following tests:
- Transformer Testing – power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
- Cable Testing – insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
- Circuit Breaker Testing – insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high‑current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
- Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
- Participate in safety meetings and training.

- Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
- Ability to assist in complex mechanical and electrical problems.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
- Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred; training will be provided.
- Consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.
- Demonstrates organizational skills to include on‑time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements.
- Maintains tools, test equipment, and vehicles in a clean and organized condition and keeps them up‑to‑date with service and calibrations.
- Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
- Corporate business hours are Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am–4:30 pm; depending on scope of work, hours outside of business hours may be required.
- Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.
- Must be able to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Must be able to travel on overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.
- Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or military experience preferred but not required.
- Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred, but not required.
- This role is considered an introductory position to the industry; other useful experience would include but is not limited to a mechanical aptitude and an attitude eager for learning.
- Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weighing up to 26 k lbs.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
- Must be willing to obtain a company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30‑hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
