Position Overview

Barnes Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, External Reporting and Technical Accounting to lead its external financial reporting and technical accounting research processes. This role is responsible for accurate and timely preparation of external financial reporting and will serve as the key technical accounting resource, providing guidance on complex accounting matters, new accounting standards and significant transactions. In addition to the responsibilities described above, there is a unique opportunity to contribute to finance transformation initiatives by identifying and implementing improvements to external reporting and technical accounting.

This is a highly visible role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, excellent project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex accounting matters clearly to both finance and non‑finance stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and review of the Company’s quarterly and annual external reporting package, ensuring financial statements, footnotes and MD&A required for debt compliance are complete, accurate and in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on complex U.S. GAAP accounting matters, including but not limited to revenue recognition, business combinations, goodwill and intangible assets, leases, debt transactions, derivatives and hedging and pension & post‑retirement plans.
  • Research, analyze and document technical accounting conclusions.
  • Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and related disclosure requirements.
  • Provide accounting guidance for acquisitions, divestitures, financings, contracts, and other non‑routine transactions.
  • Lead initiatives to improve the efficiency, accuracy and scalability of reporting and technical accounting.
  • Present technical accounting matters, reporting updates, and key judgments to senior leadership and external auditors.
  • Act as primary liaison with external auditors on reporting, technical accounting, and disclosure matters.
  • Coordinate audit requests and ensure timely resolution of reporting and accounting issues.
  • Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Treasury, Tax, external auditors, and senior leadership.
Qualifications
  • Impeccable attention to detail and high emotional intelligence with the ability to engage in quality decision making and business partnership.
  • Established project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Experience with consolidation and reporting systems (Oracle and Workiva are preferred).
  • Experience preparing or reviewing external filing documents.
  • Experience leading the research and documentation of complex technical accounting matters or other non‑routine transactions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior leadership, external auditors, legal and cross‑functional business partners.
  • Ability for travel to support business initiatives as needed.
Education Requirements
  • BS degree in Accounting;
    Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation/Advanced Degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of US GAAP accounting experience, including experience with a public accounting firm or public company industry experience; additional experience in manufacturing environments is preferred.
