Performs a variety of routine tasks involving the operation of the telephone/switchboard system and mailroom equipment. As an operator, provides patient information to visitors and other information as needed to employees. Sends out all codes and messages to doctors and staff via the internet on a program called RAVE.
Responsibilities- Operate switchboard and monitor Fire/Emergency Systems.
- Operate telephone switchboard unit following prescribed policies and procedures; assist patients and staff in completing phone calls.
- Provide hospital employees and staff members with information and assistance in using the long‑range paging system.
- Monitor alarms indicating fire or other emergency situations; take immediate steps to resolve situations and call a code as required.
- Enforce safety rules to assure a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors.
- Greets and gives routine assistance and information to visitors and the general public in accordance with hospital policies regarding patient information release.
- Receive, sort, and deliver interoffice and U.S. mail to all areas of the hospital; personally deliver mail as required.
- Use Report Manager program to obtain patient room locations and Meditech for discharged patients' mailing addresses.
- Maintain daily mail log and certified mail records; refill postage meter electronically and contact Accounts Payable for checks.
- Operate postage machine for outgoing mail and letter opener machine for Accounts Payable and Business Office incoming checks.
- Carry out special projects and assignments as required.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Superior customer service skills and experience with switchboard operations; excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge of computers.
Physical RequirementsLifting up to 20 lbs.; daily extensive walking, long periods of sitting and standing, good hand dexterity; vision and hearing corrected to normal; ability to verbalize so the average person can comprehend.
Work EnvironmentOffice type of conditions with high volume of telephone and personal contact.
Cognitive RequirementsAble to read and write English; good organizational skills with the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
