Boe/Cw Dean Of Pupil Personnel Services

To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to provide sound educational programs for students who require special education services.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Developing budget recommendations and providing expenditure control on budgets for Special Education.
  • Evaluating the Special Education curriculum, procedures and individual student's needs and achievements.
  • Supervising and coordinating special education classroom programs in conjunction with the building principal.
  • Compiling and maintaining all reports and records.
  • Interpreting the objectives and programs of the Special Education services to the staff and the public.
  • Implementing procedures for referral evaluation, placement, assignment and re-appraisal of students with regard to the Special Education Services Program.
  • Consulting with parents of students enrolled in the program.
  • Providing programs to supplement regular classroom instruction.
  • Arranging Special Education transportation.
  • Implementing procedures for purchasing special education equipment and supplies.
  • Participating in district-wide activities, in-service and committees as appropriate.
  • Keeping informed of all legal requirements governing Special Education.
  • Assisting with the in-service and training of teachers.
  • Assisting in the adaptation of school policies to include special education needs.
  • Attending special events held to recognize student achievement and school-sponsored activities.
  • Scheduling staff assignments.
  • Supervising and coordinating home instruction for special students.
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student conduct and enforcing discipline as necessary.
  • Providing instruction under the 165 certification.
  • Providing building leadership as needed operating under the 092 certification.
  • Shall perform other functions as required by the Superintendent of Schools.

Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualification requirements include:

  • Master's Degree and/or Sixth Year Degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.
  • Intermediate Administrative Certification and Special Education or Pupil Personnel Certification.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in verbal communication.
  • Ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely in written format.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of, and to adhere to, all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the State of Connecticut Educator Standards.

Physical demands include sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, occasional lifting or moving up to ten (10) pounds, close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, some driving, frequent writing, some extended hours and multiple demands from several people.

Work environment is usually very quiet in the office, but may become moderate to loud in a school environment.

Salary:
Per contract.
