OverviewPOSITION TITLE:
City Wide Para educator — currently located at BCHS, EXCEL PROGRAM
DEPARTMENT: BRISTOL CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
REPORTS TO:
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
SUMMARY:
Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Toileting students is required.
- Work with both special education and regular students.
- Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Assist students with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Assist teacher in filing material and preparing necessary paperwork.
- Alert teachers to problems observed.
- Education and/or
Experience:
High School Diploma or GED. Two years of college credit or an associate's degree; or successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment (Parapro Assessment). - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information one-on-one and in small groups. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic using two-digit numbers, money, weight, volume and distance. - Computer
Skills:
Basic knowledge of job-related computer hardware and software applications. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to follow detailed instructions and handle problems with a few concrete variables. - Other
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community; awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment typically involves classrooms with school children. The paraprofessional may work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus.
Compensation and ScheduleSalary:
Range $22.12 - $25.18 (per contractual agreement).
Work Hours:
6.5 hours per day (7:20 am to 2:20 pm).
