SummaryAssist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Assist with toileting students as required.
- Work with both special education and regular students.
- Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Assist students with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
- Alert teachers to observed problems.
- PMT required.
High School Diploma or GED. Two years of college credit or an associate’s degree (or higher) or successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering math, reading and writing instruction.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers; multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Computer SkillsBasic knowledge and experience with job‑related computer hardware and software applications.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical Demands- Regular sitting, talking or hearing. Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Ability to push items up to 50 lbs, sometimes lift or move up to 50 lbs with assistance.
- Vision: close, distance and peripheral vision required.
- Typical classroom noise level. Work throughout school building, school grounds and occasionally off campus.
- Responsible for safety and well‑being of students.
Range $22.12 – $25.18 (per contractual agreement, BPS Contracts)
Work Hours6.5 hours per day (7:45am to 2:15pm)
