Facilities Engineer – Civil​/Structural Engineer

Introduction

The Electric Boat shipyard is experiencing a period of continued unprecedented growth of existing and recently acquired facilities for renovations and fit out of new buildings. This is a once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity to be part of a dynamic team responsible for shaping the future of the shipyard. The Groton Facilities Engineering department, composed of engineers, project managers and designers, is seeking a seasoned civil/structural engineer to provide engineering of critical infrastructure and project management for the 110‑+ year old Groton shipyard and local sites.

The candidate must be a motivated self‑starter with the ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed. The candidate must establish working relationships with facilities engineers, project managers, trade personnel, vendors, management, building officials and our Customer. Aptitude to read, understand and perform duties in compliance with EB procedures, policies and requirements is required.

Knowledge of OSHA 1910, 1915 and 1926 minimum requirements to enable adherence to both Electric Boat’s Safety Manual and Contractor Safety, Health, and Regulations Manual.

• Engineering and developing scope of work, preparing bid documents, vendor selection, securing internal funding, and preparing purchase requisitions.
• Field project management of contractors and engineering design agents.
• Maintaining project quality, schedule, budget, contract requirements, subcontractor compliance, suppliers, estimates, documentation, closeout, turnover and other duties required to execute.
• Overseeing day‑to‑day construction activities and successfully executing multiple simultaneous projects.
• Developing ROM estimates and business cases to obtain funding.

Candidate must possess excellent written and communication skills to effectively run meetings and report project status to management and senior leadership.

The types of systems the candidate will be involved in include docks and marine structures, building structures, roadways, drainage, crane rail systems, and underground utility systems.

• Engineering analysis: floor loading, underground structure loads for heavy components, rehabilitation of columns, beams, reinforced concrete, post‑tensioned concrete, column sizing, and rehabilitation of deteriorated members.

This position requires cross‑function, multi‑disciplinary skills, including knowledge of architectural, building envelope, civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other infrastructure and critical systems as they relate to the Groton shipyard and ancillary sites within Connecticut.

• BS (or higher) in Civil, Structural, or Marine Engineering.
• 5+ years post‑graduate experience in engineering or construction project management.

• 3+ years or more experience in a leadership position in an engineering or project management environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License in Connecticut.
• Project Management Professional (PMP).
• Experience with CMMS software Corrigo, Oracle and Procure.

• Experience with Microsoft Excel, One Note, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Word.
