Systems Engineer, Data Engineer
A highly respected investment management organization with an exceptional long-term reputation is looking to add a Senior Trading Systems Engineer to its investment technology team.
This is not the kind of environment where people leave every couple of years. The team is extremely stable, collaborative, and technically strong. The company manages close to $1 trillion in assets and supports trading operations at an enormous scale, yet still maintains the feel of a highly professional mid-sized organization where your work is visible and impactful.
Title: Charles River Trading Systems Engineer
Location: Hartford, CT - Hybrid
Salary: $145,000 – $165,000 + Bonus
The senior engineer currently leading this area plans to retire in the next couple of years, creating a rare opportunity for someone to come in, work side-by-side with an experienced expert, absorb deep institutional and platform knowledge, and ultimately become a key long-term leader for the trading systems environment.
Responsibilities- Migrating the Charles River platform from on-prem to SaaS/Azure
- Reengineering legacy integrations into modern API-driven services
- Building applications and workflows that integrate market and trading data into the platform
- Supporting mission‑critical trading and compliance workflows used across a massive institutional investment operation
You’ll work closely with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Compliance teams, and Technology leadership in a highly visible role where your contributions will directly impact trading operations and platform evolution.
Environment- Extremely stable organization with very low turnover
- Hybrid schedule — 3 days onsite
- Collaborative 5‑person team
- Strong mentorship from senior technical leadership
- Long‑term career growth and stability
- Complex, enterprise‑level investment technology environment without the politics of a massive corporation
- Strong experience supporting the Charles River Investment Management Solution platform
- Understanding of investment trading workflows, compliance, and portfolio operations
- Experience with Charles River SaaS migrations, upgrades, APIs, or integrations is highly desired
- Development experience with C# or Python
- Strong understanding of SQL and enterprise integrations
- Experience supporting institutional trading platforms in regulated financial environments
- Candidates with experience supporting comparable institutional platforms such as Bloomberg Terminal, Aladdin, or Sim Corp will also be considered
This is the type of role experienced trading systems engineers rarely leave once they get into it — high‑impact work, excellent leadership, meaningful modernization projects, and the chance to become a key technical expert inside an organization known for long‑term stability and smart investment operations.
